Join us in a weekend hike around Tremp area in the south-central Pyrenees (Lleida Pyrenees), north of Montsec Mountains, in Catalonia, Spain.

We will leave Bcn on Friday afternoon by car. We are planning two hikes: the first on Saturday and the second on Sunday, so we will sleep two nights in a cheap hotel in Tremp village.

Both routes are planned around Sant Corneli- Bòixols ranges, an East-West trending calcareous mountains of Cretaceous age, from which we can gaze at a really stunning perspective of the Tremp area and also the Montsec Mountains to the south. The trails let us contemplate contrasting vegetation, great diversity of rocks (and dinosaur tracks!), historical remains of the Spanish Civil War, beautiful landscapes and, if we are lucky, extensive flowered fields of almond trees, poppies and vineyards.

Tremp area is well known by its wine culture (D.O. Costers del Segre), beautiful views, charming country people and traditional food and agriculture industry.

Barcelona--Tremp (by car)

The best option is going by A2 (Lleida direction). Bcn-Agramunt-Artesa de Segre-Comiols-Isona-Tremp. Time estimation: 2,5-3h.

We will sleep in a Hotel Alegret in Tremp village (twin rooms with bathroom inside and central heating). They will offer special prices for groups.

* SATURDAY, FEBRUARY 18th -- The Civil War’s trench route

Hike: Aramunt – Sant Corneli summit– Vilanoveta – Aramunt Vell

Breakfast+ lunch:

We can go to some restaurant to have breakfast and ask for a sandwich/water and fruit/energetic bars for the hike. This is just an option, feel free to prepare/buy your own lunch wherever. There are shops and markets around.

Before the trail:

We will leave Tremp at 9:00h to go to Aramunt Vell village (35 min. trip) by cars. We will start the trail there.

After the trail:

We may visit Tremp, a charming, foggy and lovely village with a medieval flavour, especially in the old part of the town where an interesting commercial activity has been developed. We can visit some nice places (museums, shops, the church, squares or enjoy a beer in a bar ;D) and buy some typical Catalan products there (more info here). On Saturday afternoon we may enjoy Carnaval’s Party with the Opening speech of the Carnival’s King, children’s passacaglia and the fancy dress ball.

I am fixing a Tasting menu (16 €) for the Saturday dinner's group in Cal Borrell, a traditional restaurant in Tremp village (more info soon).

*  SUNDAY, FEBRUARY 19th  -- The Dinosaurs’s route 

Hike: Orcau castle – Vilavella – Basturs – Orcau

·         Estimated duration: 5 hours

Breakfast + lunch:

The same plan than the previous day.

Before the trail:

We will leave Tremp at 9:30h to go to Orcau castle (20 min. trip) by cars. We will start the trail there.

After the trail:

We will leave Tremp area around 17-18h in the afternoon, going to Barcelona by cars.

 OTHER CONSIDERATIONS

Make sure you bring the following with you:

• Hiking boots (water-proof)
• Warm and water-proof clothes
• Walking sticks (recommended)
• Cap or hat/ sunglasses
• Your own toilet bag

THOSE WITHOUT THE PROPER GEAR WILL NOT BE ALLOWED TO COME.

-Petrol costs estimation: 50€ /car, if the car is full

-Accommodation costs: 

Hotel Alegret (price: 20€ per person/ night, if we are a group of 12 persons)

- Saturday's Dinner costs: 16 € per person
